HELLMANNS: America’s Sandwich
America has an official bird.
An official tree.
Even an official mammal (it’s the bison).
But we've never had an official sandwich.
To celebrate America's 250th birthday, Hellmann’s set out to find America’s Official Sandwich. Led by "The Sandwich King" himself, Jeff Mauro, we partnered with 50 different chefs and content creators from each of the 50 states and spent the summer asking Americans to vote on their favorite sandwich until we found the one: The Cheesesteak.
The sandwich celebration didn’t stop with the final count. On August 27th, 2026, we celebrated this taste of America by taking it to the Smithsonian for a sampling event, and The Cheesesteak made with Hellmann’s Mayo lived on the Smithsonian café menu for 3 weeks!
